Holidays are not just about accommodation, and on Great Barrier there's no space for pretense. It's the time and the place to make your own fun and enjoy simple pleasures. Here are a few suggestions.
Jump off the sand dunes. Find your Wings! Good dunes for jumping are just south of the Awana campground and along Kaitoke and Medlands beach.
Find and visit the three waterfalls
Have a chat to some of our beatiful roadworkers or the charming kids that are hitching a ride.
Cast a handline from one of the wharfs
Befriend an endangered bird. Kaka, taiko, banded rail and dotterel are waiting to meet you.
Attend a surf comp or buy an ABC* t-shirt or a hoody from the Rocks bottleshop in Claris. (*Aotea Boardriders Club)
Climb Te Ahumata White Cliffs or admire them from Kaitoke Beach.
Relax in the pool at the Xspot with a nice young bloke.
Visit the Grain and honey museum in Claris
Climb the highest peaks
Bathe in an estuary
Go for a picnic under an ancient pohutukawa tree
Enjoy the vista over Medlands Beach from Memory Rock.
Find a mermaid pool and have a bath when the tide goes out.
Watch the chickens at the xspot roost in the trees.
Try paddle boarding
Bare it all while no one is watching at a secluded beach
Catch a squid

​Have breakfast at one of the free BBQ's by the beach
Go for a round of Golf at the Golf Club. Have dinner after.
Watch the local touch rugby match at Claris on a Wednesday Night.

Jam at the Currach Irish Pub on a Thursday night
Have a snail race.
Enjoy wine o'clock at the hot pools. Have a whine because you have to go home.
Find a little blue penguin
Make your phone a distant memory
Go stargazing with the Good Heavens team.
